Weed Your Garden

I am no gardener, and while I like a pretty yard and flowers, I don’t enjoy yard work. So I procrastinate until I can’t avoid the yard work any longer. This past weekend I was outside pulling weeds and trimming overgrown grass, and while I was doing so I lamented to a friend about how difficult the work was. As I spoke I actually said the words, “If I’d only kept up with it all along, this wouldn’t be so hard.” As I said them, I stopped and immediately could see how they applied to life. It was as if God was giving me a mini lesson right there in the middle of my back yard.

Friends, we need to regularly examine our habits, actions, and thoughts. We need to pluck out those things that are harmful when they are small, rather than allowing them to grow into something that overshadows the healthy aspects of our lives. It’s so much easier and causes much less harm if we don’t allow the “weeds” in our lives to take root.

So let’s get to work. It’s worth it, I promise.
